Pet Prescriptions and Medication
Written prescriptions are available from this practice.
A veterinary surgeon may only prescribe POM-V medicines for animals that are under their care and where they have carried out an appropriate clinical assessment. A written prescription may not be appropriate in all circumstances, for example where your animal is an inpatient or where immediate treatment is required.
Prescription Charges
The current charge for a written prescription is:
- Medication Decision Fee: £6.60
- Prescription Fee: £20.90
- Total Prescription Charge: £27.50
Cost of Medicines
You will be informed, on request, of the price of any medicine that may be prescribed or dispensed for your animal.

Repeat Prescriptions
The practice requires at least 48-72 hours’ notice for any repeat prescriptions. To ensure that medicines remain appropriate and safe for your pet, animals receiving repeat prescriptions must be re-assessed periodically by a veterinary surgeon.
The frequency of re-examination will vary depending on factors including:
- Your pet’s medical condition
- Response to treatment
- The medicine being prescribed
- Potential side effects or monitoring requirements
- The age and overall health of the patient
In most cases, pets receiving repeat prescriptions will need to be examined every 3 to 12 months. The attending veterinary surgeon will record on your pet’s clinical record when the next examination is required.
